I finally received my M1-22 back from Chiappa service on Friday, August 3rd.
They replaced the barrel liner with a new one featuring a proper fully supported chamber. Hopefully it will now shoot safely and reliably.
I do have a huge gripe- The factory defective chamber caused the cartridge detonation that destroyed one of my two factory magazines. I carefully detailed this in my letter in the box- with the destroyed mag and also in my email to Chiappa. Guess what, Chiappa chose to send me back my destroyed magazine and NO REPLACEMENT. I think this is pretty darned lame. They say by shooting it with the defective chamber, the damage is my fault!
Their dangerous, defective rifle design caused the damage. They never issued an official recall of the rifles. They never informed the dealers that were selling the early rifles of the defect. How the heck is the blown mag my fault when the only way I found out their was a defect is when the cartridge blew-up just like several hundred other early owners.
One thing for certain- I am never purchasing another Chiappa, Citadel or Legacy Sports product!

Chiappa M1 22 Recall List
Warning on Citadel M1-22 made by Chiappa!! Post Apr 05, 2012 #1 2012-04-05T22:21. Sep 09, 2016 Specifications: Chiappa Firearms 1873 SAA-22. Unfortunately this is typical of Chiappa’s efforts. Their 9mm “M1 Carbine” is a “jam-o-matic”. Mediainfo 0 7 94. This company keeps making low-end arms that appeal to those that either don’t know, or can’t afford any better. Initially the M1-22 barrels did not include proof marks as the parts were shipped to the U.S.A. And assembled at the Chiappa facility in Dayton. Eventually Chiappa began submitting the M1-22's to the Italian National Proof House for inspection.

Chiappa M1 22 Recall 2017
Recently bought a Citadel carbine from Cabelas -$300. I returned it the next day. It is made by Chiappa in Italy. Before buying one of these you should be aware that much of the rifle is polymer (plastic). The plastic parts are the rear and front sights, the trigger guard, the trigger, the type 3 barrel band-don't know about the inside. If you're OK with that, fine. It comes with a wood or black nylon stock. My examination at the store was too hasty and I blame myself for that.
